- On-Arrival Visa: Obtain a single-entry, three-month tourist visa upon arrival.
A. Tanzanian e-Visa (recommended)
Applying for a Tanzanian e-Visa is a simple process that can be completed online. Below is a concise manual to guide you through the application steps, especially for U.S. citizens.
Step-by-Step Application Process
1. Check Passport Validity:
Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your departure date from Tanzania. This is crucial to avoid any issues while traveling.
2. Visit the Official e-Visa Website:
Go to the official Tanzania e-Visa application portal at visa.immigration.go.tz.
3. Start a New Application:
Click on “New Application” and enter your email address and passport details. You will receive an Application ID via email, which you will need to continue your application.
4. Complete the Application Form:
Fill out the required sections, including:
- Personal Information
- Contact Information
- Passport Information
- Select the type of visa (for U.S. citizens, choose multiple entry).
- Provide details about your trip, including the purpose of your visit and accommodation information.
5. Upload Required Documents:
Prepare and upload the following documents:
- A recent passport-sized photo (file size 300KB max)
- The bio data page of your passport (file size 300KB max)
- Your return ticket (file size 300KB max)
6. Review and Submit Your Application:
Carefully review all information in the declaration section to ensure accuracy. Agree to the terms and submit your application.

9. Download Your Visa:

B. Tanzanian Visa on Arrival
To apply for a Tanzanian visa on arrival, follow these steps and ensure you have the necessary documents ready:

- Passport-Sized Photo: Bring a recent photo taken against a white background. If you don’t have one, photos can be taken at the airport.
- Return Ticket: Provide proof of a confirmed return ticket to demonstrate your intention to leave Tanzania after your visit.
- Visa Application Form: Fill out the visa application form completely and accurately upon arrival at the airport.
Application Process
- Upon arrival at a designated entry point in Zanzibar/ Zanzibar, present your documents to the Immigration Officer.

Restricted Referral Visa for Certain Countries
Online Application Required:
- Submit your visa application online and wait for approval before traveling.
- Apply at least 1 month before your intended travel date.
Supporting Documents:
- Include an invitation or request letter from your host for added credibility.
- Upload the letter during the online application process (e.g., in the “Return Ticket” field). Do not send it separately by email.
- The letter can be uploaded alone or merged with your trip itinerary.
Upon Approval:
- Carry your actual return ticket when arriving in Tanzania or Zanzibar.
Addressing the Host Letter:
- If visiting mainland Tanzania, address the letter to the Commissioner General of Immigration.
- If visiting Zanzibar, address the letter to the Commissioner of Immigration, Zanzibar.
- If visiting both, address the letter to the authority of your first destination.

Vaccination
